Welcome to the family!
We are so glad to see you are interested in learning more about what God is doing at Peniel Church.
What to expect:
Parking: If our parking lot is full, there is street parking along Boswell Ave. and more around the corner at Brook Street Park.
Arrival: First thing to note is we invite you to come just as you are! Some come dressed in shirts and ties and even in suits. Many dress casual. What matters most to us is you come. We highly value reverence for God’s house, including arriving in time to prepare our hearts to meet with Jesus.
Children: We are in the process of providing childcare for children who are potty trained to age 4 during the preaching. Prior to the message, parents will be given time to bring their children to the nursery. All ages participate in the rest of the service.
Teens: Our teens are active in our small groups, discipleship groups, special activities and volunteer outreaches. For more information about making sure your teenager is included, call 860-861-4246.
What We Believe!
The bible is the inspired and complete word of God. It is the revelation of God’s plan to reconcile humankind to God. The Old Testament shows us our need for a Saviour and promises His coming. The New Testament shows the atoning work of the Saviour and reveals the plan of salvation.
God created the earth and the universe and is the author and genesis of life itself. He made man in His image to know only God and from that man came all men.
Free will and sin
Man chose of his own free will to disobey God — sin. This nature was passed to man’s descendants who found it impossible not to sin. So, “All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God.”
“God so loved the world” that He already had a plan prepared to redeem man from sin and reconcile him to God. This plan involved teaching man the evil of his sin by the giving of the Law and providing a type and shadow of the price that justice requires of sin in the Old Testament sacrifices.
God provided the ultimate payment for sin by giving His own Son as the fulfilling of those sacrifices. “Christ, our Passover lamb is sacrificed for us.” He did this when “God became flesh” through the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, who lived a sinless life and offered Himself as the scapegoat for the sins of the world by being crucified. There is no other way for man to be saved other than through Christ crucified. Jesus rose physically from the dead.
All people can be saved from their sin and its consequences by believing in The Lord Jesus Christ. This requires repentance — a complete change of mind and direction, away from sin, to follow Him. This results in a miraculous change of nature called being “born again" and is publicly declared by water baptism.
We believe Heaven is real, a place created for Christ and the saints of God. We believe Hell is real, a place created for the Devil and his angels and for all who will not believe.
2nd Coming of Christ
Christ will return physically to the world at the end of man’s rule, the dead will be raised and all will be judged in the light of God’s justice and love.
It is the responsibility of the Church of Jesus Christ to preach the Gospel to the world, first by the example of Godly living, abstaining from sin as defined in Holy Scripture and walking in close relationship with God. But this is also done by the bold and uncompromising proclamation of the truth by the empowering of the Holy Spirit, who is God with the Church, and is the only effective power in the Church.
